After a year full of changes and uncertainty, we are sure many will be more excited about the upcoming holiday season than ever before. Of course, the pandemic is far from over, and it’s been a trying year for many. So our classic holiday celebrations might look a little different this year, and that’s OK. Rather than carrying on as normal, this Christmas is a great time to mix things up and try new holiday traditions.

Let’s look at a few ways you can celebrate Christmas this year.

1. Give Back

Giving back to the community is one of the ways to celebrate the season. It always feels good to give back especially during the holiday season, so why not make it a family activity? There are so many ways to help out around the holidays. You can consider financial donations to orphanages, old folk’s homes, disability centres or other underprivileged groups. Or simply volunteer to visit one of these centres to assist in buying groceries and necessities for them, while providing emotional support at the same time. Remember to check with the centre of the SOPs in place before making your visit!

2. Play Secret Santa – Through the MAIL

No matter how close or far your loved ones are this year, you can spread some holiday cheer by mailing Christmas gifts to them.  Just because everyone can’t get together doesn’t mean you can’t play Secret Santa. Have everyone draw names as usual, then you can just mail gifts to your recipient. You can send some homemade cookies, DIY Christmas card, cutout candle and more! Check some of the best Secret Santa Gifts if you need some inspo. After all, everyone loves receiving surprise packages—especially when they’re filled with homemade treats.

3. Movie Night

Host or attend a Christmas-themed movie night with your loved ones to get in the holiday spirit. Put on your comfy pyjamas, pop some popcorns and make some hot chocolate! There are a TON of Christmas movie options to choose from. There are stories of the Nativity Story, Christmas miracles, and even how Santa became Santa Claus!

4. Game Night

Host a game night with your family or friends! Well, every party could use a fun activity. You can go for board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly for those with a competitive streak. Otherwise, you can also go for team games such as Charades, Pictionary or Trivia. If you would like to get really creative, here is a list of Christmas party games that is sure to put everyone in a jolly good mood.
